Construction and properties
The repair splice consists of an aluminum main pipe coated with explosives. For feral lines, a steel pipe over a steel core is also used. Steel lines are joined with a special steel splice.
Repair splices are used when replacing joints on electrical transmission lines.

Special characteristics
The work can be carried out quickly in the air, if possible, without the use of an additional splice.
Rules of use and safety
- Detonating fuse must be cut with a sharp knife or special tool suitable for this purpose.
- Detonating fuse must be initiated with a catch cap or teeth.
- Moist pentrite has low sensitivity; interruptions in detonation may occur.
- Dry pentrite has great sensitivity.
- If spills or remnants of detonating fuse are discovered after detonation, this must be collected and treated as an explosive item.
- Safety distance min. 50m upon detonation.
Detonation
- When cutting out an old joint or stripping, the rope must always be cut at least 100 mm from the edge of the old splice.
- A visual examination of the line must be carried out for corrosion, heat run, filler and grease as described in the INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR RAUFOSS EXPLOSION VALVE. Damaged line must be cut away.
- If so much line has to be cut away that it is not possible to join with a repair splice, a minimum of 30 m of new line must be joined centered on the old splice.
- Make sure the fixture is correctly mounted. Inaccuracy can cause reduced grip length and thus reduced holding power.
- Tape the catch cap to the explosive. Make sure that the trap cap is placed in the correct place as shown in the SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS OF THE EXPLOSIVE INSTRUCTIONS, part 3, DETONATION, point 2, and that the trap cap lies in the longitudinal direction of the pipe close to the explosive.
- Carry out turnover of the charge. - Remove any remnants of the PVC hose and the joint is finished.
