The implosive method in principle replaces hydraulic pressing of friction connections
A metal pipe is exposed to external overpressure when a suitable explosive is detonated. The pressure, which is many times greater than the yield strength of ordinary metals, sets every point of mass in the pipe in rapid inward motion. When there is a line placed so centrally in the pipe, the pipe will transfer kinetic energy to the line so that it is compressed. The deformation stops at a degree of compression that depends on the ratio between the explosive's energy amount and the mechanical strength of the components.
